Dance Masters: Jerome Robbins

This week’s dance master is Jerome Robbins!

Mr. Robbins was an American choreographer, director, dancer, and theater producer who worked in classical ballet, on Broadway, and in films and television. Some of the stage productions he worked on were On the Town, Peter Pan, High Button Shoes, The King And I, The Pajama Game, Bells Are Ringing, West Side Story, Gypsy: A Musical Fable, and Fiddler on the Roof. He was a five-time Tony award winner and a recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors. He received an Academy Award for Best Director with Robert Wise for West Side Story.

All though I never had the privilege or opportunity to meet or work with him, his work greatly impacted and inspired me as an artist! However, he was the mentor to two of my dance mentors–both Dance Master geniuses in their own right: Alan Johnson and Jaime Rogers.

Here is a short video about him that I enjoyed very much and think will give you a wonderful feel for the man and the artist! Enjoy!
